Welcome to Kitasoo Community School!
Kitasoo Community School is a First Nations K – 12 school located in the beautiful and remote village of Klemtu on the Pacific Central Coast of British Columbia in the Great Bear Rainforest. The students and community are very invested in high quality education at the school and welcome staff participation in the many cultural events in this small community.
The school prides itself on the collaborative and dedicated staff; the excellent oral language program, and a SEAS Cultural program that runs throughout the year and is integrated into the academic curriculum.
The school is FNSA certified and offers the BC curriculum and an intensive reading and math program to ensure excellent foundational skills for students to pursue the programs of their choice upon graduation.
The school has the Great Bear Rainforest as the learning environment for our students. A great deal of ocean and fish research goes on in this community through a variety of research organizations and our students have opportunities to engage with these researchers, visit the bay to take plankton samples, walk through the forests to identify and harvest traditional plants. The First Nations Language/ SEAS program immerses students in their local heritage and culture, learning traditional stories, dances, harvesting and preparing local medicinal and food plants.
